BARRY MINKOW started ZZZZ Best Carpet Cleaning company in his parents’ garage at age 16. By 21 he was the darling of Wall Street. He fooled three CPA firms into clean opinions, and many lenders, investment bankers, attorneys and sophisticated investors. He told Oprah “Think big. Be big. End of story.” Unbeknownst at the time, Minkow was also secretly connected to two New York Mafia Crime Families. Upon his release from prison in 1995 after serving almost 8 years in federal custody, Minkow earned 2 Masters Degrees, became a Pastor and began uncovering fraud. By 2010, Minkow had helped the FBI and SEC, uncover over 16 cases totaling 1.7 billion dollars. However, months later he pled guilty to insider trading and tax fraud and resigned his 14 year pastorate in disgrace. He was released in 2018 after serving seven and a half years and since then has helped the government proactively identify, this time as a whistleblower, 13 cases of financial fraud totaling over 1 billion in victim impact. In 2019, Barry remarried Lisa and was able by God’s grace to reconcile his family. He and Lisa live with their twins, Robert and Dylan, and daughter-in-law to be, Sarae, and granddaughter, Selena.
Denial. Concealing the evidence. Diversion. Navigating around the truth. These are well thought out and proven techniques perpetrators of financial fraud use to deceive victims. Believe it or not, they are also the same techniques many men over 40 who struggle with excess belly fat use to promote what I call physiological fraud. Stomach too big to tie your shoes or clip your toenails? How about when you wake up in the morning--can you sit straight up from a lying position out of bed or must you navigate around your stomach? As for aesthetics--dark clothes, at least one size too big and no shirt removal in any public setting. And faced with one flight of stairs when the escalator isn't working and your heart rate accelerates so quickly that you make sure you know where your phone is--just in case you need to call 911. And just as the consequences for financial fraud do not immediately follow the crime (for example, it can take the IRS years to discover you hid income on your tax return) so in like manner the negative consequences of excessive belly fat do not immediately follow the onset of the condition. But it will. Study after study has shown the devastating health consequences of excessive belly fat. But here's the good news. It doesn't have to be that way. "It's Your Stomach!" is designed to kick start the rest of your healthy life--no matter how many times you have started and failed in the past.
